About This Parasha
Parashat Shemot opens the book of Exodus and tells the story of the Israelites enslavement in Egypt and the beginning of their redemption. The parasha introduces Moses, from his birth and rescue from the Nile, through his flight to Midian, to his encounter with God at the burning bush and his mission to free the Israelites.
